The Vermont roster for the 59th Annual Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl was released today. Fourteen high schools are represented on the Vermont roster with the Division I champion Hartford team sending a state-high eight seniors.
The Vermont Shrine Team will be coached by Rutland’s Mike Norman. Norman has coached the Vermont team two previous times, winning 21-13 in 1998 and losing 21-0 in 2001.
“We were looking for kids who were the best athletes and who would represent the state of Vermont in a first class manner,” said Norman in a release today. “The Vermont Shrine team will be operating from the multiple I offense.”
This year’s Shrine game will be played August 4 on Dartmouth College’s Memorial Field. The Vermont squad will be begin practicing July 26 at Kimball Union Academy.
New Hampshire has won the last 11 Shrine football games between the two states. Vermont fell to New Hampshire last year 45-21. New Hampshire leads the all time series 43-13-2.

Having played and blocked Normans son, I don’t agree with him being on the team whatsoever…classic abuse of power by a father for his son
where’s the Essex representation here?
I agree with that. Playing against him knowing and watching film on him he did not stand out like other people did. I do feel as though this is Unfair.
Directed towards the two jealous kids who clearly did not make shrine, you clearly don’t know that not just “his dad” decides who make the shrine team, it’s multiple coaches who actually matter across the state that make the choice. I’ve been team mates with him my while life and he by far deserves to make the shrine team and considering he is going to play division 1 football at army he must be doing something right. Learn what you’re talking about before trying to trash a kid who got what he deserves by working for it
i like the team this year except for one thing…8 guys on the team are from hartford…and only 7 players from d2 made it, i believe teams like NC,FH,MHS got cheated out some players…each one of those teams could have been in the top 6 in d1 this year, i guess thats just where politics come into play
Towards Jealousy. I do understand that it takes multiple coaches to decide on the team. I stand for myself on this one by saying i played against a lot of kids this year. I’m by no means trying to put Norman down in anyway i am just saying that there is a lot of talent in Vermont. Therefore I do not believe that the coaches took into account everybody, And no i am not mad at anything nor am i jealous of not making the team i am just saying my opinion on the matter. I do not want to point out this one kid because football is a team sport but you playing with him and me playing against him you have to understand that we have different opinions.
agree with corey. congrats to him, however I could think of more than 1 kid who I would have picked over him.
Toward Jealousy, I hate to tell you man but nobody from Vermont this year was good enough to play Division I football in college. Try to be realistic. However, I respect the hell out of your coach and have played against him and do not know his son but if he has been coached by Norman he is no doubt a solid athlete.
Hey I love the shrine game,I played in 1976, Back then the coaches could only pick 3 players from a school ,and we won. I hate the way its done now Its not fair to the smaller schools to have 6 or 8 players chosen from one school . There are a lot of great players in the small schools. These players are every bit as good as the D 1 schools, just not as many, I think that it should go back to no more then 3 players from any school. I think That it would increase attendance by having more schools being represented. back a few yrs ago woodstock had won the st championship for the 4th time in a row,There were 5 players who played in 4 state championship games ,and not 1 made the shrine team . anyone of these players could have played D1 ball.I was so pissed , that I wanted to burn my jersey at half time. So I sent some letters to the editorials, and some of the coaches that were on the selectioncommittee, the only response was that one of the D 1 coaches said ” the shrine game is a D 1 game ,and he didn’t think that anyone in D3 was good enough to play D1 ball. So if that’s the way they feel you have just deleted one division!! Political ? yea
Andy, here we go with the everybody gets a blue ribbon mentality It is what it is. and for webber there is a kid that is playing d1 next year
how did that guard from springfield not make it!? what’s his name, Stillings? maybe he’s a junior I dont know…. but he was the best lineman in the state by far. I totally agree with Andy. D3 schools are smaller, but any of those players could compete in D1. Vermont football itself is the least impressive state in America when it comes to football, so why not make the teams fair and only select the BEST players instead of selecting thirty kids from one team?
And also I know I will receive many negative comments for this, but 25 players from the south!? The only team that dominated in both D1 and D2 from the South was Hartford, all the rest were average… seems very political to me. Espically since the North has more teams and players.
Jason – google Mike Dulac VT football – and then ask yourself who the best lineman in the state is.
I googled mike dulac and watched his recruiting video. I am not impressed. He looked very slow to me and when he was 1-1 he had trouble finishing blocks. Most highlights in that video he was trapping or hitting someone who was already engaged. He didn’t use his arms well to keep defenders out of his middle. I can’t believe this kid is anywhere near the best lineman in the state. If he is it says more about the state of football in Vermont than his talent
just-a-fan – all I can say is the 25 or so D1A and D1AA schools that are recruiting him and their coaches must not know as much about playing offensive line as you do. How could they have missed all this. Makes you wonder.
i know who dulac is and he is talented, no doubt. but he’s a junior so initially I was talking about seniors because this is Shrine Bowl Game of seniors not juniors. I even saw him play, yes he is good but honestly there are some players on the shrine team this year that are just as good if not a little better and how come they don’t recruited? i don’t know. Sometimes its about getting your name out and having coaches get your name out, clearly dulac didn’t just get handed offers he had to work to get his name out. some other kids could too? but do they choose to… maybe not? dulac isn’t as lazy as the ones that could be great like him.
