Matt Palmer’s first period goal was the difference in BFA St. Albans 1-0 shutout of Colchester in boys hockey Saturday night.
Palmer scored unassisted for BFA (15-4-3) on a breakaway six minutes into the game. The senior grabbed possession of the puck around center ice and sprinted up ice before depositing the puck in the top right corner of the net.

“The puck squirted out [from a Colchester player] and I was able to grab it and I just went with it,” said Palmer. “Our defense did a great job of collecting the puck and hitting the wings. Colchester skates well and we knew needed to come in and play physical.”
The Bobwhites were coming off a loss to Spaulding on Wednesday needed a win to keep pressure on South Burlington for the #2 seed in the upcoming Division I playoffs.
Colchester (15-6-1) was shutout for the first time this season. The Lakers came into the game winners of four of their last five games and lost despite a 22-20 edge in shots on goal. In allowing just one BFA goal, the Lakers held the Bobwhites to their lowest scoring output of the season. BFA averages 5½ goals per game.
BFA’s Andre Morin stopped all 22 shots he faced, helping the Bobwhites to their fifth shutout of the season. Colchester’s Henry Butler finished with 19 saves.
