Burr & Burton quarterback Jake Stalcup was named the 2011 Vermont Gatorade Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound junior quarterback passed for 2,448 yards and 31 touchdowns this past season, completing 163-of-286 passes while throwing 10 interceptions, leading the Bulldogs (7-4) to the Division II state final.
Stalcup has maintained a 3.54 GPA in the classroom. He has volunteered locally as a youth football and baseball coach and has assisted in relief efforts for Hurricane Irene flood victims.
“Jake Stalcup has become a first rate quarterback in every sense,” said Burr & Burton head coach Jason Thomas. “Every single week he gave us a chance to win and he will only keep getting better.”
The award is given out to players who display excellence on the football field and in the classroom. Last year’s winner was quarterback Christian McCormick of Rice Memorial High School.
