The #2 seeded Burlington boys soccer team advanced to the semifinals as they beat the #10 seeded Rutland 1-0 at Burlington High School Friday afternoon.
Rutland goalkeeper David Cohen kept Rutland in the game, as he racked up 17 saves. He made diving save after diving save. Burlington had it’s best chance to score in the 1st half as Mohamed Jafar made a beautiful pass to Nitirucakure Renovat, but Cohen made a diving save to his left to preserve the tie.
Burlington managed to get a goal off of a corner kick with 29:40 left in the game, as the ball deflected of a Burlington head, to a Rutland back. The ball trickled into the net after it hit the Rutland player. The goal was awarded to Burlington sophomore Tobias Muellers. It turned out to be the game winner.
Burlington goalkeeper Will Rider stopped 6 shots, and registered his 8th shutout of the year.
Burlington improves to 12-1-2 on the year, and plays CVU next Tuesday in the semifinals, while Rutland ends the year with an 9-7 mark.
