
The top seeded CVU girls soccer team avoided another playoff upset to Colchester with a 4-2 win in Saturday’s Division I quarterfinal. The ninth-seeded Lakers could not produce a repeat of last year when they upset top seeded CVU in the semi-finals.
Sienna Searles scored twice for CVU (14-1-1). The senior gave the Redhawks the lead in the 26th minute off a corner kick. CVU closed out the first half with two goals in the final two minutes. Sophia Steinhoff’s feed set up a Mackenzie Kingston goal with 1:58 remaining, then with 10 seconds left in the half, Searles scored unassisted from 30 yards out.
Colchester (8-6-2) scored twice in the second half. Laurent Bernard registered the Lakers first goal ten minutes into the second half. Sophomore Elise Bouffard scored for Colchester with under seven minutes remaining.
Sophia also scored for CVU in the second half. Bryn Philibert stopped three shots while Sarah Monteith stopped one shot for the Redhawks. Haley Forkey and Chloe Bean each made five saves for the Lakers.
