South Burlington Upsets CVU 3-2 in Boys Soccer

The South Burlington Rebels boys soccer team upset CVU 3-2 in boys soccer Friday. The loss shook up the tournament seedings for the upcoming Division 1 Playoff Tournament next week, as Missisquoi will now earn the #1 seed in Division 1.

“We came out and played hard and our defense played amazing today,” said Cody Nash-Gibney. “We came out real pumped up.”

The Rebels got an early goal from Rob Wetmore from a Cody Nash-Gibney assist. After CVU’s Shane Haley tied the game 1-1, Nash-Gibney added a goal with less than two minutes remaining in first half.

Alejandro Vinals pushed the South Burlington (9-4-1) lead to 3-1 in the second half. CVU cut the deficit to just a goal after Ezra Mount-Finette scored a goal with less than eight minutes remaining.

The loss was just the second of the season for CVU (11-2-1). The Redhawks will likely be the #3 seed in the upcoming playoffs. South Burlington will likely be the fourth seed.
