Freshman Hunter Pelkey scored the lone goal with 7:13 left in the 1st half as Essex beat North Country 1-0 at Essex High School Tuesday night. With the win, the Hornets snapped a three game losing streak and improved to 8-4-1 on the year.
With the help of a perfect through ball by senior Said Gosto, Pelkey was able to finish to help Essex win. Essex keeper Jared Anderson manged to post a four-save shut out.
Though the opportunities were limited for the Falcons, their best chance for a goal came as senior Dylan Columbia broke free from the Essex defense on a breakaway. However, Anderson calmly made the save with 8:43 left in the game. This shot was the first shot that Anderson had seen during the 2nd half.
Junior Logan Fortier kept North Country in the game as he made 16 saves.
The two teams played over a month ago where Essex was able to defeat North Country 5-1 in Newport. North Country, although their record may not show it, has played tough against some of the top teams in division one this season.
Essex wraps up the regular season as they travel to BFA St. Albans on Friday, while North Country finishes the season as they host Colchester on Thursday.
