It took only 40 seconds for the CVU boys soccer team to feel better about this year’s playoffs compared to last year.
In 2010, the Redhawks entered their quarterfinal game with an unbeaten record against lower-seeded Harwood. CVU suffered a 1-0 loss to end their postseason earlier than expected.
Friday afternoon, CVU senior Benjamin Comai scored the first of his two goals in the first minute to give the Redhawks an early lead. The lead held up as 3-seed CVU won their Division I quarterfinal game 3-0 versus 6-seed Colchester.
“I can’t say last year was not on the players’ mind this past week–or mine,” said CVU head coach TJ Mead. “Being up early helped us settle into how we wanted to play and I am overall happy with how we performed.”
Junior Shane Haley added a goal and an assist for CVU (13-2-1). C. Todd Forrester was credited with an assist on the Redhawks opening goal.
Brandon O’Connell had six saves for the Redhawks. Matt McBride stopped 18 shots for the Lakers.
Colchester ends their season with a 10-5-1 record.
