Rice Opens With 2-0 Win Over North Country

The Defending D-III Champion Rice Field Hockey Team Opened 2011 With A 2-0 Shutout Over North Country

The Rice Memorial field hockey team won their season-opening game 2-0 over North Country Tuesday afternoon.

The three-time defending Division III champs received a first half goal from junior Erika Gonyaw on a penalty chance before halftime. Senior Jennifer Campbell added a second half goal for the Green Knights. Senior Natalie Crowley picked up an assist on the second half goal.

Sophomore goalie Maura Sheridan stopped the only shot she faced for Rice. Danielle Gabucci finished with thirteen saves for the Falcons.

Rice next plays at St. Johnsbury on Thursday. North Country is at Montpelier next, also Thursday.
