I will be traveling down to Castleton to watch the D-I girls and boys lacrosse state titles games Friday night. Castleton was a great venue for football in the fall so I’m sure parents, players and fans will have a great time this weekend as well.
Unfortunately I don’t have time for the proper preview these games deserve. I put together a couple quick playoff history notes and links to games I covered this spring involving these teams. Both match ups involve the top two seeds in their division and all the teams split the season series.
See you at Castleton or follow @VTscoreboard on Twitter for live updates.
Division I Girls Lacrosse Final:
(1) Middlebury vs. (2) South Burlington
Friday 5:00pm
The Tigers won 8-7 at South Burlington in April while the Rebels won 13-10 in Middlebury in May.
Middlebury was in last year’s D-I title game but lost to Mt. Anthony. The Tigers are looking for their first title since 2008. South Burlington’s last girls lacrosse title came in 2007 when the Rebels topped Middlebury. The Tigers are 7-4 in the finals while South Burlington is 1-2. Since the VPA started crowing a girls lacrosse champion, Middlebury has played in the title game 11 out of 14 years while winning it all seven times.
Division I Boys Lacrosse Final:
(1) CVU vs. (2) Essex
Friday 7:30pm
CVU topped Essex 10-8 in April at Burlington High School. The Hornets won the rematch at the Redhawks 7-6.
The D-I championship game is a rematch of last year’s title game where Essex beat CVU 10-5. CVU is looking for their first boys lacrosse title since 2006. CVU is 2-6 all time in the finals while Essex is 3-1.
