
Mt. Anthony beat Rice 11-5 in the Division I Baseball championship game
Mt. Anthony scored four runs in the fifth inning and three runs in the sixth inning en route to a 11-5 win over Rice in the Division I Baseball championship game. The Patriots trailed 5-1 after two innings but scored the final ten runs of the game to win their first baseball title since 1996. Brett Harrington hit a 2 RBI double for MAU in the third
Mt. Anthony (16-4) senior Nick Lloyd hit a three run home run with two outs in the fifth inning. The booming shot to left center was one of five hits and four runs in the inning. Two Rice errors helped the Patriots score three more times in the sixth inning.

Harrington, David Maggio, Tim Murphy, Tyler Kunzmann, Wade Green, and Mike Nelson all grabbed two hits for MAU. Tony Baldic started for the Patriots and pitched four innings. Kunzmann pitched three scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win.
Zac Poland started for Rice (15-4) and lasted 5.1 innings while striking out seven batters. Tim Rensch entered in the sixth inning for the Green Knights and struck out four. In all, the Patriots grabbed thirteen hits off Rice pitching.
Nicky Elderton hit a two run homer in the first inning for Rice while Joe Boardman had a two run double in the second.
Congrats to Mt Anthony – you stayed in the game, got Polland’s number and taught the Rice boys who were looking for their 3rd ring in a year a lesson. Their early season chatter was over the top. Even the post of a Rice player on the playoff predictions that MAU had an easy ride through the bottom bracket showed arrogance.

I am only going to say congratulations MAU – you played well when it counted – great job. Sorry no pot shots at the other team as that is ridiculous. Both teams deserved to be there and the better team won. Way to go MAU
