
Middlebury beat South Burlington 8-7 in Overtime
In the season opener for both teams, the Middlebury girls lacrosse team knocked off South Burlington 8-7 in two overtimes. The Tigers led 5-2 after the first half but the Rebels came back to take the lead 7-6 with under three minutes to go. Middlebury tied the game with 52 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime. The game-winning goal for Middlebury came from junior Brandi Whittemore two minutes into the second overtime.
Middlebury (1-0) was led by junior Chrissy Ritter’s four goals and an assist. Her sister Katie Ritter added a pair of goals and three assists. Freshman Kiera Kirkaldy and junior Eliza Mayer also tallied goals for the Tigers.
Junior Molly Higgins scored a hat trick for South Burlington (0-1). Freshman Ashley Norris scored two goals in her first high school game. Sophomore Anne-Marie Farmer and Allie Flaherty also scored for the Rebels.
Junior Maria Ploof saved ten shots for the Tigers. Senior Ashley McDonald finished with ten saves for the Rebels.
