Division I boys lacrosse has come down to CVU and Essex in recent years and this year looks no different.

In a rematch of last year’s D-I title game, the CVU boys lacrosse team narrowly beat Essex 10-8 Thursday evening at Burlington High School. Essex beat CVU 10-5 to win last season’s championship, but the Redhawks came into this game with a 3-0 record and something to prove.

“We have been waiting for this game to figure out where we are as a team and now it feels good knowing we can beat a good team,” said CVU boys lacrosse head coach Dave Trevithick.

CVU (4-0) senior Nathaniel Wells finished with three goals. Senior Lawrence Dee added two goals and two assists.

Essex (2-2) senior Marty Harrison finished with two goals. Senior captain Ben Adams also tallied two goals along with three assists.

CVU senior goalie Eric Palmer finished with 10 saves while facing constant pressure from the Essex attack.

“He gets fired up all the time but he plays huge in big games. I was real happy with how he played today,” said Trevithick.

Sophomore Pat Abbott had nine saves for Essex.

VU’s next game is a home contest versus BFA St. Albans on Saturday. Essex next plays Mt. Mansfield at home.
