In the first of two high school girls hockey championship games Monday night, U-32 knocked off Harwood 4-1. The win gives the Raiders their second straight Division II title after beating Rutland 3-0 in last season’s title game at Kreitzberg Arena.
U-32 senior Jyneva Pickel finished with two goals in the win.
“All week we talked about seizing the moment,” said Pickel. “We knew we had to keep our composure and it paid off.”
U-32 (18-3-1) took control with two first period goals. First Pickel scored off a Gabrielle Coletti pass 3:36 into the game. Six minutes later, Zoe Myers added a goal to put the Raiders up 2-0 off an assist from Stacy Woolaver.
The Raiders added two more goals in the second period. Gabrielle Coletti scored 2:24 into the second off an assist from Myers. Pickel added her second goal minutes later to put the Raiders up 4-0.
Harwood’s first goal came in the seventh minute of the second period. Laurel Whitney scored for the Highlanders off assists from Taylor Yandow and Kristina Yandow.
Harwood finishes the season with a 19-3-1 record.
U-32′s Ashley Vincent had seven saves in the game. Harwood’s Siena Damon finished with 21 saves.
