The UVM Hoop Cats will travel to Quinnipiac on Saturday to face the Bobcats as Catamounts fans who are not making the trip to Hamden, CT will be able to enjoy the game on NESN. While junior guard Garvey Young will not be suited up to play for Quinnipiac having to sit out a full year due to transfer rules, Young will look to have his Bobcats beat his former team at home. Over the past two years Young had been a huge contributor for the Catamounts defensively, and is missed on this years UVM team. The D.C. guard enjoyed All-Conference and All-Rookie team honors in his time at UVM.

UVM has looked good in the early going surpassing low expectations by some critics coming into this year with the loss of Marqus Blakely. The Catamounts opened up the season ending Siena’s 38 game unbeaten streak at home with an 80-76 win. The Catamounts followed up that performance with an impressive first half against UConn taking a 36-33 lead into halftime, before giving up 56 points in the second en route to a loss. With a young roster, I expect the Catamounts to have their bumps at the beginning of the season, but they will compete at the top of the America East standings once conference play begins. Freshmen Brian Voelkel will be a key addition to the Catamounts this season as he will be big under the boards for UVM.
As much as we all love Evan Fjeld’s 1970′s era mustache, it is nice to know the other reason he is rocking it. (Besides it looking awesome.) Check out this great article about where Fjeld talks about the meaning behind the mustache.
