South Burlington's Field Hockey team poses after undefeated regular season
The South Burlington Rebels field hockey team beat CVU 2-0 to cap a 14-0 perfect regular season. The undefeated mark is the best record in South Burlington team history. South Burlington was also playing its senior day game as it was the last home game of the regular season.
The Rebel goals were provided by Anne-Marie Farmer in the first half and Ashley McDonald in the second half. Amanda Arena had an assist on the Rebels first goal. Carly Stine assisted on McDonald’s score.
The Rebel team features 11 seniors which has helped on the field. “This team… they have really great chemistry and it helps on the field. They have played together a long time and everyone knows where they are supposed to be and where the other players will be. It showed today as we had great passing sequences,” said South Burlington head coach Anjie Soucy.
After the game, the South Burlington players celebrated and received black t-shirts that read “got wins?” on the front. Soucy remarked after, “I want them to celebrate and enjoy it but next week we starts a whole new season. These games are wiped clean.”
South Burlington will be either the 1 or 2 seed in the upcoming playoffs. They are fighting with Hartford who is 13-0 with one game left.
Champlain Valley’s Sami Kassel had fifteen saves while South Burlington’s Rebecca Bowser had two saves.
The Redhawks fell to 6-3-3 on the season but are in good position for the playoffs. CVU should be a 4 or 5 seed, which will allowed them to host their first game. CVU’s last game is Friday at home versus Mt. Abraham.
